I lived in Byrneville from my birth June 30, 1941 until 1965 when I moved to Bloomington, Indiana, then to Howe, Indiana 1967. I moved from Howe to Kansas City in 1975. Then I lived in Independence until I moved back in 2000 to Byrneville then in a short time to Corydon, Indiana where I lived until 2012 when I moved to Florida. 48 years I was an Indiana Hoosier, then a Misouri Tiger and then a Florida Gator but no matter where I live, I will always be a Hoosier. One legend says that the word Hoosier originated in pioneer days when someone knocked on a cabin door, from inside would be heard the muffled sound "Who's There", if the person was known they would put the latchstring out and they would be able to come in. I absolutely loved my life in southern Indiana and still do love to visit. Within 50 miles of Byrneville there is a wealth of beautiful, insightful and magnificent things to see and experience, going a bit further brings you many other must see things. These weblinks will give you a good overview of the area that I call home!

The Harrison County Fair
The Harrison County Fair has been held for over 150 years, making it the oldest county fair in the state of Indiana to be continuously held in the same location, the Harrison County Fairgrounds.
My first ride on a ferris wheel was here and I imagine my finger prints are still on the safety bar, I was so frightened.

Morgan's Raid
“I’m sent to warn the neighbors. He isn’t a mile behind;
He sweeps up all the horses— every horse he can find;
Morgan, Morgan the raider, and Morgan’s terrible men,
With bowie knives and pistols, are galloping up the glenn.”
Morgan's Raid was a diversionary incursion by Confederate cavalry into the northern (Union) states of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and, briefly, West Virginia, during the American Civil War. The raid took place from June 11–July 26, 1863, and is named for the commander of the Confederates, Brig. Gen. John Hunt Morgan. Although it caused temporary alarm in the North, the raid was ultimately classed as a failure.

Schimpff’s Confectionery
This unique confectionery and lunch room in Jeffersonville's downtown historic district comes complete with a 50's soda fountain and original tin ceiling. The old-fashioned candy jars, cases, and turn-of-the century equipment transport you back to the good old days of home-made candy and a real fountain drink.

Going to Stephenson's if like stepping back into the 1940's and early 50's. I brings back to me in vivid details of John Byrn General Merchandise, my grandfather's General Store. It has been updated to offer cooking, camping, hardware items.
